Honors Showcase

For the International Co-op Experience, I worked in Germany from January to August 2025. I worked for Forschungszentrum in Juelich, which is close to Cologne. At the research center, I worked in nuclear safety, specifically with Passive Autocatalytic Recombiners (PARs). These devices recombine hydrogen with oxygen to avoid hydrogen explosions in a nuclear severe accident scenario. They are also being investigated for use in liquid hydrogen for transport applications without adequate venting (i.e. tunnels, garages, and ships).

I learned a lot through this experience. I learned about working in a different culture, improved my cultural intelligence, and gained more self-confidence. I learned more about what I want out of my future career. I met lots of people from lots of backgrounds. I tried a lot of new things. I am immensely grateful for this opportunity and what it taught me. The experience has helped me re-evaluate and re-focus my future goals on a deeper level than before.

For my sample of work from this experience, I have linked my ICP blog: https://brown4ee.wixsite.com/eloiseabrown/copy-of-about. I have used this because I think it explains my experience well and shows my growth. This was an assignment for the program and consisted of eight prompts I responded to throughout my time abroad, and during my re-entry transition. It covers what I did, where I worked, any travel I did while abroad, what I learned, etc.
